So How Do You Get a APRS Passcode

If you want to connect to the APRS IS network, you need a Passcode that will validate your callsign.  Per the APRS-IS Guidelines “It is the responsibility of each software author to provide the proper passcode to their individual users on a request basis. This is to aid in keeping APRS-IS restricted to amateur radio use only.”

Please do not post links to passcode cracking sites. Per APRS-IS guidelines, it is the responsibility of APRS software authors to provide APRS-IS passcodes to their users.

Link Removed. That said, software vendors are NOT providing a means of obtaining a passcode, so this will likely prevent any future ad-hoc APRS-IS Gateways from being brought online. The cure may be worse than the disease.

Wondering if this was a recent change to recommended practice as this post was 3 years old?

Glad you found it Steve – registration seems to be a manual process and is often fraught with issues, like the code appearing in your Spam box. But it is what it is and it serves a very important function by ensuring that only licensed hams get the code.
