My club, Newport County Radio Club, has a fairly active POTA group which gets together a couple of times a quarter for activations.  Its a good time to see other rigs, antennas, and simply have a fine time together.   … Continue reading →

Opening Season for POTA (and fishing)

Posted on April 13, 2026 by robert

Yesterday I shook off my long-lasting winter blues and headed out for my first activation of 2026.  This was a shakedown trip to make sure I wouldn’t completely mess things up while testing a few new things.  I drove all … Continue reading →

Hunting for Pebbles

Posted on April 13, 2026 by robert

A number of years back, my club had a built night that centered around an inexpensive 40m QRP rig called the Pixie.  It’s one redeeming value was it was CHEAP (< $10), so new hams wouldn’t be too bummed out … Continue reading →

Posted on April 6, 2026 by robert

Progress toward 2000 unique POTA Parks

Posted on February 13, 2026 by robert

I’m thinking something pithy, like as slow as maple sap in the winter – that’s how fast my march toward 2,000  unique  POTA parks is going.  It’s been 44 days, and I’ve worked 50 new parks, bringing the total to … Continue reading →

I really went deep into a rabbit hole yesterday.  I had been reading and listing to many things POTA related and stumbled upon the fact that there was now a DMR Talkgroup, 3181, for POTA users to coordinate their activations.  … Continue reading →
