NOAA has announced a much greater than normal Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook with 17 to 25 named storms and 4-7 major ones.
With this in mind, are you ready for this year’s hurricane season? Do you have a plan for protecting your home and family? See this resource for planning help.
Are you currious about the data that backs up the forecast? There is an excellent 15 minute long discussion about how the transition from El Nino to La Nina, water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic, and upper level winds all factor into the probability of hurricanes.
I’m getting back into ham radio after a 5-6 year hiatus. I sure could use some help with programming my Icom 80AD & 880H. You seem to be the most knowledgeable! ICOM is useless and RT Systems seems to be like “Alfred E. Neuman” from “Mad Magazine”…What? Me Worry? RT Systems now has a Mac version of the 80AD software. Downloading a completed 80AD to a CSV file and then uploading to the 880 is possible. I’m a Mac user and this is MUCH easier than the “Windoze” version. DSTAR repeaters will take up a minimum of 5 memory positions. CQ, L, U, I plus reflectors. That can add up quickly just for the DSTAR repeaters in Georgia. There appears to be a way to link the DR Memory, and the Reflector list (memory??) together. Somehow select the repeater from DR memory and then somehow select any one of 30 or so reflectors and then the proper command…U, CQ, etc. I NEED HELP. We can talk on the phone if/when necessary. Thanks a lot!
Hi Winston
Sorry you are having issues, and I’m not surprised. The ID-80AD was Icom’s first attempt at a DSTAR HT, and it was obscure as heck. Part of the reason for that is the way users used the system in Japan, where it originated, before there were DSTAR repeaters and reflectors. Unfortunately I no longer own that radio, as moved on to a ID-51. I was able to program the 80AD using Chirp as I recall, and had it working with the 3 local repeaters.
Good luck! 73, Bob
