SKYWARN Training

It was a pleasure to attend Rob Macedo’s (KD1CY) Smithfield RI SKYWARN Training Class on July 13.  While scheduled to last 3 hours, it proceeded at a casual pace and was done in about 2.5 hours.  The class covers criteria for reporting severe weather to the NWS SKYWARN line, and focuses a good deal on tornado/funnel cloud signs.

Our local SKYWARN program is run out of the Taunton MA NWS facility, which has recently added a six meter link into the KA1RCI Repeater Network.  The only other tie into RI is the 146.76 repeater, which has not had decent state-wide coverage for years (perhaps less than 20% of the state can reach that machine).
